Local swimmers to compete

Six local swimmers will compete this weekend in the Long Course National Championship Meet at Mount Hood Community College's aquatic center.

More than 1,100 swimmers are registered to compete, and of those 300 are from Oregon.

The local bunch are members of Baker Area Seasoned Swimmers, or BASS for short.

The competing swimmers are:

Andrew Bryan, 43: Two events the 200 meter freestyle and the 200 meter backstroke

Robin Maxon, 37: Three events 50 meters in butterfly, freestyle, and breaststroke

Paula Moe, 45: Three events 100 M backstroke, and 50 M in backstroke and butterfly

Bob Moon, 53: Three events 200 M in backstroke, breaststroke and the individual medley

Penny Rienks, 57: Five events 50 M in backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle, and 100 M in breaststroke and backstroke

Brian Vegter, 37: Three events 1500 M freestyle, 400 M freestyle, and the 200 individual medley.
