Tigers win 2-0, spoiling Bulldogs' perfect league mark

The Baker girls' soccer team's steamrolling route through the Special

District 7 schedule skidded off the path Thursday at La Grande.

The Tigers shut out the Bulldogs 2-0.

The loss put the first blemish on Baker's District record.

The Bulldogs are 8-1-0.

La Grande improved to 4-4-2.

"It was a tough game," Baker Coach DeeDee Clarke said. "La Grande looked really strong - they played their best game."

The Tigers were a different team than the one Baker beat 2-0 earlier this season at the Sports Complex, Clarke said.

Thursday's loss, though disappointing, was irrelevant as far as Baker's position for the state playoffs.

The Bulldogs had already clinched the District title before Thursday.

Baker will play host to a playoff match Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Sports Complex.

The time has not been set, nor has the opponent, Clarke said.

Baker will play Cottage Grove, Western Mennonite or Sisters.

Clarke said Baker actually looked strong early in Thursday's match - especially Robbie Langrell.

"Robbie had a wonderful game," Clarke said.

But the Bulldogs couldn't convert Langrell's fine crossing kick early, and after that their scoring chances were few.

"We weren't being as aggressive up front as we usually are," Clarke said.

Baker plays Riverside Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
