Baker left little doubt early about the outcome of its Greater Oregon League boys basketball game with Mac-Hi Saturday at BHS.

The Bulldogs rode 23 first-points from Derek Blankenship to a 46-24

halftime lead, and rolled to a 74-43 victory. Baker ran its GOL record

to 3-0 with the win.

Blankenship, who finished the game with 25 points after seeing limited

action in the second half, hit five three-point baskets in the opening

16 minutes.

"When Derek is on like that he's fun to watch," said Baker coach Craig

Woods. "And he opens up our posts when the opponents have to go out to

defend him."

Woods said the game also gave the Baker players who don't see that much action an opportunity to play quality minutes.

"It was a good game for the kids who don't get a lot of time a chance to play," he said. "The big thing was for them to maintain the intensity, and they did."

Blankenship scored eight points in the first three minutes of the game as Baker constructed a 12-1 lead. Then, after Mac-Hi answered with an 8-0 run to cut Baker's lead to 14-12, the Bulldogs ended the first quarter on a 7-2 spurt to lead 21-14 at the break.

Blankenship then added six points to spark a 10-0 Baker run to start the second period, building the margin to 31-14 with six minutes left in the half.

Another 9-0 Baker spurt, sparked by four points from Jesse Brown and three from Blankenship, boosted the lead to 41-17 late in the quarter.

Baker led 46-24 at halftime.

Kennan Richards scored six points in the third quarter to help the Bulldogs maintain a 64-31 advantage entering the fourth quarter.

Trace Richardson and Zach Thatcher each scored a pair of baskets in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs.

Richards joined Blankenship in double figures with 10 points. All but one Bulldog scored in the game.

Baker hosts Ontario Tuesday at approximately 7:30 p.m. Baker then travels to La Grande Friday.
