Baker dominated Yamhill-Carlton 56-7 in a Class 4A football play-in game Friday at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.

With the win, Baker (8-1) will host Klamath Union in a 4A first-round game Friday or Saturday. The exact day and time has not been announced by the Oregon School Activities Association.

"It was quite a show," said Baker coach Dave Johnson.

"Our defense made a lot of big plays. We were perfect on third-down conversions. We had a goal to hold them under 50 percent on third down conversions."

Yamhill-Carlton was good on just one third-down conversion. That came on a Baker penalty.

Johnson had trouble finding any area where Baker had an off night.

"Our offense played well. The defense, particularly the secondary, played great. Our receivers played well."

Quarterback Jesse Brown was nearly perfect passing, finishing 12-of-15 for 288 yards and three touchdowns. Brown also ran for two scores.

Stephen Talbot ran for a TD and caught a pass fro another in just one half of play. Talbot left the game at halftime after being diagnosed with a rapid heartbeat. He said he was feeling fine after the game.

Colten Richards, who replaced Talbot in the backfield, scored three times. He ran for one score and caught two Brown passes for his other TDs.

"Colten ran like the wind. He played well," Johnson said.

Talbot scored Baker's first touchdown with 5:47 left in the first period. On the play, Talbot lined up in the "Wildcat" formation. He received the direct snap and raced to the right sidelines. He appeared to be stopped short of the goal line, but stretched the ball over the line as he dove. The ball came loose, but he was ruled to have scored before that happened.

Will Barr added the first of his eight conversion kicks and Baker led 7-0.

Baker recovered a Tiger fumble on the next drive and drove for its second score.

Brown did the honors, following the right side of the Bulldog line into the end zone from a yard out.

Then, after forcing Yamhill to go "three and out," the Bulldogs needed just one play to increase their lead to 21-0.

On the play Brown stepped up into the pocket and found Talbot racing down the right sideline. Brown's pass hit Talbot in stride on the way to a 55-yard TD.

The first quarter ended with Baker leading 21-0.

Brown intercepted a Yamhill pass near the end of the first quarter and that led to Baker's next score.

Six plays into the second period Brown scored on a 7-yard run up the middle for a 28-0 Baker advantage.

Richards scored his first touchdown on Baker's next drive. He broke off the left end and raced 24 yards for the score.

Justin Durflinger gave Baker the ball back later in the quarter, with the second of Baker's three interceptions.

Richards got his second TD, this time on a 33-yard pass from Brown over the middle.

Baker led 42-0 at halftime.

Brown and Richards hooked up again with 5:47 left in the third quarter, this time for a 7-yard TD. That also started a running clock due to the 45-point mercy rule.

Baker increased its lead to 56-0 three plays later when Sam Averett intercepted a Yamhill pass and took it back 65 yards for a touchdown.

Baker finished with 483 total yards, while holding Yamhill-Carlton to 231.
