MILTON-FREEWATER - Baker's Greater Oregon League boys basketball game Friday evening was over almost before the Bulldogs got off the bus.

Baker stormed out of the locker room to score the first 17 points of the game and never looked back in a 90-19 rout of Mac-Hi.

The win gives Baker a perfect 9-0 GOL record. The last time Baker was perfect in the GOL was in 2002 when the Bulldogs finished 14-0 in league play. Baker went on to finish fifth at state that season.

Jordan Curtis scored eight points, Taylor McEnroe four and Jesse Brown three as the Bulldogs forged a 17-0 lead after three minutes of the game.

"It was one of those games where we could have scored every time off the drive," said Baker coach Craig Woods. "They weren't guarding us."

Mac-Hi finally scored with 4:45 left in the first period. Then Baker went on an 8-0 run, with McEnroe, Brown, Nick Cripe and Coleman Lay scoring a basket each.

The Bulldogs led 27-4 after one quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second period with Baker tallying 25 points to take a 52-8 halftime lead.

McEnroe scored eight points in the quarter, Brown six and Dillon Blankenship six.

McEnroe scored 14 points in the first half, Brown 11 and Curtis 11.

Curtis and Brown scored early baskets in the third quarter to complete a 12-0 Baker run, building the lead to 56-8.

Then, after Mac-Hi scored its 10th points, the Bulldogs went on a 22-0 run. Colten Richards led the way with six points. Ty Everson added five, and Lay four as five Bulldogs scored in the run.

Baker led 78-11 after three quarters, and was looking at the possibility of scoring 100 points in a game for the third time this season.

But, Mac-Hi started passing the ball around on offense, and Baker spent its time working on its defense. Then, when Baker had the ball, the Bulldogs worked on fine tuning some things.

"We set a defensive goal of holding them under 30 points, but we didn't think we could hold them under 20," Woods said, smiling.

"We worked on some sets we haven't used for a while. I can't fault the effort."

Woods said the Bulldogs ended up shooting 62 percent from the field.

McEnroe finished with 18 points, Curtis 16, Brown 13 and Blankenship 10.

Baker travels to Hermiston this evening.

Hermiston, a Class 5A school, is 14-7 on the season and 10-1 against Oregon opponents.

"It's been about five years since we last met," Woods said. "They had an opening on their schedule and we had one too so we decided to play each other. They're a solid team, so we should get our money's worth."

The game will not be broadcast on the radio.

Baker will host a Class 4A play-in game Friday or Saturday against one of three teams - Astoria, Seaside or Scappoose.

Astoria and Seaside meet tonight at Warrenton. The winner gets the Cowapa League No. 3 seed. The loser plays Scappoose Tuesday at Clatskanie. The winner of that game gets the Cowapa No. 4 berth. The loser Tuesday plays Baker.

As a side note, Scappoose is coached by former Baker graduate and coach Mike Doherty.
