Baker boys fall to Hermiston

By Jayson Jacoby, The Baker City Herald

HERMISTON - Baker boys basketball coach Craig Woods doesn't like to lose. But, Monday at Hermiston, he put the Bulldogs' 65-51 loss to Class 5A Hermiston to good use.

"It was a win even though we lost," Woods said. "We can see where we need to work on things before Friday."

Baker will host either Astoria or Scappoose this weekend. Those teams

meet tonight with the loser taking the No. 5 Cowapa seed. Baker

athletic director Mike Sullivan said weather conditions on the West

side may impact the game. If they can play Baker's game will be Friday.

If tonight's game is postponed, Baker's game could move to Saturday.

"Hermiston is the best team we've played all season," Woods said. "But we knew that going into the game.."

Baker outshot Hermiston from the field, but let the host Bulldogs get

to the free throw line 32 times, making 26. Meanwhile, Baker was just

12-of-15 from the line.

Baker outrebounded Hermiston 30-25.

Taylor McEnroe led Baker with 15 points, and limited Hermiston's 6-foot-7 Trevor Phillips to just 10 points.

"Taylor had a great game," Woods said.

Jesse Brown and Jordan Curtis each added 10 points for Baker.

Baker shot 32 percent from the field, and just 8 percent from three-point range.

"This was a good game. It just took us a a while to get into it," Woods said.
