CRANE - Top-ranked Crane ended Powder Valley's dreams of a return to the Class 1A state girls basketball tournament Saturday.

Crane led from start to finish before handing the Badgers a 55-39 loss.

"Our girls got off to a slow start, down by as much as 14 in the second quarter," said Powder Valley coach Brent Gyllenberg.

Powder Valley managed to cut the deficit to 10 points, 25-15, at halftime.

The Badgers continued their surge, pulling within four points in the third period.

"Our girls played with a strong Crane team throughout," Gyllenberg said. "The final score doesn't show that we were within reach until the final minutes of the game.

"I'm very proud of our girls for never giving up. That has been the case all year."

Crane outrebounded the Badgers 42-26, including 18 offensive boards.

Jessica Pedro led Powder Valley with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Katie Hamann added 13 points, four assists and four steals. Kate Jones had three points, seven rebounds and five steals.
