Baker softball rolls by Weiser

WEISER - Baker started fast and kept on rolling Saturday, handing Weiser an 11-1 defeat in a non-league softball game at Weiser.

"We jumped out early and hit the ball well," said Baker coach Al McCauley.

The Bulldogs (6-1 overall) hit Weiser with a 6-run first inning.

Sierra Howerton started it off by getting hit by a pitch. Laura Wilson sacrificed Howerton to second. D.J. McCauley then doubled Howerton home. Tori Brown followed with another RBI double, and Jessi Stephens a run-scoring single.

Taylor Ellis was hit by a pitch, and one out later, McKenzie Srack added an RBI single. Aubree Shepherd completed the scoring with a run-scoring fielder's choice.

Morgan Johnson's RBI double increased Baker's lead to 7-0 in the second inning.

McCauley added a two-run single in the third to boost the lead to 9-0.

Stephens then capped Baker's scoring with a two-run home run to right-center field in the fifth.

Brown pitched the first three innings to earn the win. Brown struck out three and walked two. McCauley pitched the final two innings, striking out four and walking one.

Baker opens Greater Oregon League play Friday at the Baker Sports Complex against Mac-Hi.
