Baker girls basketball

Baker lost just two seniors from last year's state playoff girls basketball team. That team advanced to the first round of the Class 4A playoffs before falling to top-ranked La Salle Prep.

Eight Bulldogs return from that team.

"Just about everybody returns," said Baker coach Tim Smith.

"We'll have a lot of experience. We're hoping to draw on it this season."

Smith said the Bulldogs have a lot of team speed, including at the post position.

"Our posts will probably be the quickest in the Greater Oregon League," he said.

"Our goal is going to be to run. The girls have been working extra hard."

Returning seniors are Marley Robb, Ashley Trees, Allison Kercheski, Emily Smith, Shasta Overton and Stacy Duman.

Juniors returning are Abi Smith and Michelle Birkmaier.

"Right now our roster has six guards and two posts," Smith said. "The preseason will tell us who else we'll bring up. We're looking for a 10-player roster. The preseason will help tell us who that will be."

Jenny Mowe-Joseph coaches the Baker junior varsity and Andy Borbon the frosh/soph.

"It's good to have Andy on our staff. He's been a good addition to our staff," Smith said.

The Baker coach said the Bulldogs will play more man-to-man defense, and hope to create some fast break opportunities from their defense.
