Baker boys roll

Baker's defense was in fine form Tuesday in the Bulldogs' 59-31 Greater Oregon League boys basketball victory over Ontario at BHS.

Baker coach Joel Richardson said the Bulldogs set a goal of holding Ontario to 40 points or less.

"Defensively, it was a very, very good game for us," Richardson said.

"We did a great job of making them earn everything tey got. Even when Trent Taylor and Jordan Curtis got into some early foul trouble the guys off the bench did a great job of defending."

Curtis scored four of Baker's six points in a 6-3 first quarter. But he also picked up his third foul with 1:36 left in the quarter.

Dillon Blankenship then hit a pair of baskets to help the Bulldogs take a 12-9 edge with 3:41 left in the first half.

Shortly thereafter the Bulldogs pulled away. Blankenship hit a three-point basket and Colten Richards added two more as the Bulldogs increased their lead to 21-10 at halftime.

Curtis reentered the game in the third period and scored eight points to help Baker continue to add to its margin, 40-22.

He added nine more of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Richards added 12 points on four three-pointers. Blankenship chipped in 18 points.

"That was a season high in points for Jordan, and a season high in three-pointers made for Colten," Richardson said. "It was great they did it on their senior night.

"We're starting to rebound well, and play defense well. Both are crucial this time of year," Richardson said.

Baker travels to Mac-Hi Friday before hosting a Class 4A first-round playin game Feb. 25. The time and opponent are yet to be determined.
