Baker split its season-opening nonleague tennis matches at Pendleton Friday.

The Bulldogs swept the boys match 7-0, but a short-handed girls squad dropped a 4-1 decision.

"Pendleton had some newer players and all of our guys have been around a while," said Baker boys coach George Keister.

The Bulldogs swept four singles matches and three doubles matches, not loosing a set.

Lukas Huggins, Nathan Eiselein, Ivan Hansen and JJ Vela won singles matches.

Huggins and Eiselein teamed to win the first doubles.

Brandon Zunino and Cooper Brooks and Chance Parry and Jesse Burk also swept their doubles matches.

Just three Baker girls made the trip.

"More than half of our team was missing due to illness and other commitments," said Baker girls coach Jodie Averett.

Devon Galiszewski and Delaney Kee earned Baker's lone win in the No. 1 doubles match.

Galiszewski had a busy afternoon, playing in two doubles matches and the No. 1 singles match.

"Devon was a trooper," Averett said.

Baker travels to Fruitland Tuesday and Weiser Thursday.
