What a difference a week makes.

A week ago Baker's bats were silent in a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader loss to Ontario.

Friday, however, the Bulldogs banged out 21 hits - all singles - to take two GOL games from Mac-Hi, 6-3 and 6-1, at Milton-Freewater.

The sweep evens Baker's GOL record at 2-2 and boosts the Bulldogs to 6-5 overall. Baker is now on a three-game winning streak.

"These were a couple of really good wins for the boys," said Baker coach Dan Blankenship.

Sam Averett threw a complete-game win for the Bulldogs in the first game. Averett allowed five hits while striking out six.

"Sam threw really well," Blankenship said. "He got ahead of the hitters all day and threw the ball well."

Baker took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Colten Richards walked and stole second. Richards scored on a single by Braden Phillips. Phillips later scored on a two-out single by Colin Hessel.

Then, after Mac-Hi tied the game in the third, Baker regained the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Richards was hit by a pitch and again stole second. Phillips plated Richards with an RBI single. Phillips later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Talbot.

Then, leading 4-3, Baker added two more runs in the sixth.

Phillips walked and advanced on a single by Kody Younger. Phillips then scored on a Talbot RBI single. Younger scored the second run on a passed ball.

Phillips led Baker's offense with three hits and two RBIs. Talbot added two RBIs.

Younger threw a complete-game three-hitter to win the second game. He struck out three.

"Kody was outstanding," Blankenship said.

"He was ahead in the count all day. He threw a couple innings against Ontario and Hermiston and we wanted to work him into the rotation. He threw a great game. He was a really big bonus for us."

Baker scored all the runs it would need in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Phillips singled, Younger walked and Jake Grammon had a bunt single to load the bases. Hessel added another bunt single for an RBI. Mason Cline drove home the second run with a sacrifice fly.

Younger's RBI single in the third increased Baker's lead to 3-0.

The Bulldogs added three runs in the seventh.

Averett and Dillon Blankenship singled to start the inning. Richards and Grammon followed with RBI singles. Richards scored the third run on a passed ball.

Mac-Hi scored a meaningless run in the bottom of the seventh.

Grammon led Baker's offense with three hits. Richards added two.

Baker hosts Weiser in a single nonleague game Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex. The Bulldogs then travel to La Grande Friday for a GOL doubleheader.
