FRUITLAND - Fruitland nipped Baker 8-7 in a back-and-forth nonleague girls softball game Saturday at Fruitland.

The Grizzlies (10-3) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the winning margin.

Baker took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks, in part, to a two-run home run from Darryn McCauley.

Then, after Fruitland had taken a 4-3 lead, the Bulldogs regained a 5-4 edge in the fourth inning.

Again it was McCauley doing the damage. McCauley slugged her second two-run homer of the day to center field.

Fruitland tied the game with a single run in the bottom of the fourth.

Baker then took its final lead, 7-5, in the top of the fifth.

Taylor McAdams and Danielle Freese singled, and a Fruitland error plated the first run. Tasha Nelson then hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive home the second run.

Fruitland rallied with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Kendll Cox had a two-run single, and Rhyli Rayo added a bunt run-scoring single to plate the runs.

McCauley took the loss in relief of Sierra Howerton.

Baker (6-5) hosts Weiser in a single nonleague game Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.
