Baker softball rolls

Baker rolled over Weiser 9-0 in a rain-shortened nonleague softball game Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex.

The game was called with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when the skies opened up and the rain began pouring down.

Baker scored all the runs it needed in the second inning. Abi Smith opened the inning with a double down the left field line. Smith advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.

The Bulldogs increased their lead to 3-0 in the third.

With one out Jessi Stephens and DJ McCauley drew back-to-back walks. Both runners advnaced on another passed ball. Both later scored on succesive wild pitches.

Baker then broke the game open with six runs in the fourth.

Smith was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single from Danielle Freese.

One out later, Tasha Nelson walked. Another out later Stephens drove a two-run single up the middle. Then, after McCauley walked, Darion Grove scored Stephens with a double. Stephanie Shepherd followed with a two-run single.

McCauley and Sierra Howerton combined to pitch a four-hitter.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Friday at La Grande.
