Baker softball closes in on GOL title

Baker moved a step closer to clinching the Greater Oregon League

softball championship Saturday by sweeping Ontario 5-3 and 13-4 at

Ontario.

The Bulldogs and Mac-Hi are tied for first in the GOL with 7-1 records.

Mac-Hi visits Baker Friday. A Baker sweep would clinch the title.

In Game 1 against Ontario, Baker jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings.

In the first inning, Taylor McAdams stroked a two-run single to get

Baker on the board. McAdams added a third RBI in the third inning on a

fielder's choice.

Sierra Howerton's RBI single accounted for Baker's other run in the second inning.

Then, after Ontario cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth, Baker added an insurance run in the seventh.

McAdams again did the work with another RBI single.

D.J. McCauley was the winning pitcher. McCauley threw a five-hitter, striking out 10.

In Game 2, Baker erupted for three runs in the first inning and seven in the second.

In the first, Howerton opened the game with a triple and was promptly

tripled home by Jessi Stephens. Stephens scored on a single by McCauley.

McCauley later scored on a double by Darion Grove.

In the second inning, McAdams led the way with a two-run single.

Howerton, McCauley and Grove each added RBI hits, and Stephanie Shepherd

an RBI bases-loaded walk.

Stephens added a run-scoring double, and McCauley an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Grove completed the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh.

Howerton was the winning pitcher, throwing a six-hitter. She struck out three.

Baker split the JV doubleheader with Ontario, losing the first game 18-2 before wining the second 14-2.
