Bulldogs rally past GU

Baker used solid pitching and defense to hand Grant Union a 5-2 loss in a nonleague baseball game at John Day Tuesday.

Nate Baeth and Mason Cline spread seven hits and one walk throughout the game to combine for the win.

"Our pitchers did a real nice job of not allowing any extra outs," said Baker coach Dan Blankenship.

"And, defensively we were very sound. Th ekids played hard."

Baker trailed 2-0 after three innings before rallying.

Baker scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth Colten Richards was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Baeth groundout.

In the fifth, Sam Averett was hit by a pitch and later scored on a Richards sacrifice fly.

Baker took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth. Caleb Custer walked and Averett reached on a bunt. Both scored on a double by Cline.

Richards completed the scoring in the seventh with a solo home run.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Friday when the Bulldogs host La Grande in a doubleheader at the Baker Sports Complex.
