Baker turned the lights out on Mac-Hi - literally - Friday in their Greater Oregon League football opener at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.

With 55.3 seconds left in the game and a running clock, the power went off at the stadium.

The outage proved to be part of an overall outage that hit portions of Baker and Union counties Friday evening.

With Baker leading 56-0, game officials asked both coaches about continuing and it was decided to end the game at that point. It would have taken some time to get the lights back on at the stadium.

Baker (5-1 overall and 1-0 in the GOL) left little doubt about the outcome from the start. The Bulldogs scored on 8 of their 10 offensive possessions.

Baker rolled up 442 yards while limiting Mac-Hi to just 105.

Baker quarterback Braden Phillips was 12-of-16 passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for two scores, and caught a pass from Thomas Hamilton for another touchdown.

Trent Taylor led Baker's ground game with 114 yards on 13 carries, and a touchdown. Taylor also returned an interception for another score. He had two thefts in the game.

Dane Bachman caught nine passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns. He also had an interception.

The Bulldogs bunched 46 points into the first and third periods.

In the first, Phillips and Taylor scored on short runs, and Phillips connected with Bachman for a 38-yard TD pass.

Leading 20-0, the Bulldogs added another Phillips TD run in the second quarter to lead 26-0 at halftime.

Baker then exploded into the second half, scoring three times in the first four minutes.

The first came two plays into the half when Phillips found Bachman on a slanting pattern and completed a 76-yard TD aerial.

Three plays later Mason Cline battled a Mac-Hi pass into the air and Taylor picked it off for a 22-yard interception touchdown.

Taylor picked off his second pass on the first play following the kickoff, and two plays later Phillips found Bachman in the end again for a 44-0 Baker lead.

Hamilton increased Baker's lead to 5-0 with 1:32 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard TD run.

That also started the running clock by 45-point rule.

The Bulldogs completed the scoring with 5:22 left in the game when Hamilton connected for a 3-yard touchdown pass with Phillips, who had lined up at wide receiver.

Baker will celebrate Homecoming Friday when the Bulldogs host Ontario (also 1-0 in the GOL) with the league title on the line at 7 p.m.
