Baker's boys cross country team ran away with the team championship at the Baker Invitational meet Thursday at Quail Ridge Golf Course.

The Bulldogs finished with 30 points, 24 better than second-place Ontario.

Baker's girls team placed third in its half of the meet with 68 points. Vale won the girls team title with 26 points.

"Both Baker teams raced well despite the distractions from Homecoming week," said Baker coach Mike Knutson.

"We love running on our home course. Nic Maszk had a great race. He and the rest of the boys team have their eyes set on a district championship."

Maszk ran away with the boys individual title, winning with a time of 17:32.0. That was almost a minute better than second-place finisher Quentin Jensen of Nyssa.

Baker's Evan Krohn was fourth (18:43.0), Connor Yates seventh (19:35.2), Nate Baeth eighth (19:39.6), Ian Krohn 10th (20:02.4), Collin Hessel 18th (20:44.2), Tyler Gassin 22nd (21:02.5), Micah Grammon 23rd (21:07.2), Cody Gyllenberg 24th (21:16.2), Franklin Bowers 27th (21;45.2), Jacob Baxter 29th (21:52.7), Nick Anderson 30th (22:11.0), Levi Farber 32nd (22:37.5) and Bryan Ames 35th (24:01.2).

Sarah Spaugh was Baker's top girls finisher, placing sixth with a time of 23:49.0.

Kim Pettit was 15th (25:36.2), Katie Sandefur 20th (26:46.8), Charlie Carpenter 24th (27:51.8), Madelien Owen 25th (27:53), and Anna Payton 27th (29:00.1).

"Madeline Owen, our lone senior on the girls team, ran well at her last home meet," Knutson said.

"We'll definitely miss her work ethic and positive attitude."

The Greater Oregon League district meet is Saturday at Eastern Oregon University at La Grande.
