Baker needed a victory at Milton-Freewater Friday to secure its third straight Greater Oregon League boys basketball championship.

The Bulldogs (7-2 in the GOL) got exactly what they needed, topping Mac-Hi for the third time this season, 56-34.

"It's really exciting for our boys, winning three titles in a row," said Coach Joel Richardson.

Baker entered the game coming off a subpar outing at Ontario earlier in the week. But, Richardson was pleased with what he saw against the Pioneers.

"It was Mac-Hi's senior night and they came out with great emotion. We just stayed steady, then got after 'em and put it away," Richardson said.

Against Ontario, the Bulldog were badly outrebounded. Baker turned that around against Mac-Hi, holding a 48-21 advantage on the boards.

Braden Phillips led the way with 10 rebounds. Dane Bachman added nine, Thomas Hamilton seven, Mason Clien seven, Ben Baxter seven and Dillon Blankenship five.

"The kids did a great job coming back. They did a great job rebounding the ball and playing defense," Richardson said.

"Everybody did a great job of triggering our tempo game."

Blankenship led Baker in scoring with 18 points. Phillips added 11.
