Baker's playoff hopes took a huge hit Friday when the Bulldogs lost a Greater Oregon League baseball doubleheader to La Grande at the Baker Sports Complex.

La Grande swept the games 11-1 and 7-4.

"We play Hermiston (today) at 4:30 then we'll just have to see what might happen as far as the playoffs," said Baker coach Dan Blankenship.

Baker's only chance at post-season would be an at-large berth after the OSAA is finished ranking the teams.

In Friday's opener, Baker scored one run in the third inning.

Dan Stinson reached base on an error and scored on Dillon Blankenship's double.

In Game 2, Baker trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, then scored four runs to tie the game.

Stephen Schott walked and Stinson singled. Both scored on Micah Mespelt's double.

Mespelt scored on an error, and Darren Dolby scored on Caleb Custer's sacrifice fly.

"It was a great game," Coach Blankenship said.

"I thought when we came back to tie the game 4-4 we were going to get them.

The Baker coach said bounces just didn't the Bulldogs way.

"In the sixth we thought we had the last out on a strikeout, but we didn't get the call. The next guy then hits a three-run homer," Blankenship said.

That homer proved to be the winning margin.
