HALFWAY - Pine-Eagle kicked off its high school football season Aug. 30 with a 14-6 win at Jordan Valley.

Pine-Eagle coach Blake Dennis was pleased with the outcome, especially since he had just a dozen available players for that game.

The Spartans' roster lists 19 players, but due to the lack of the required number of practices several players couldn't play.

Leading the Spartans will once again be senior quarterback Justin Seal.

"He's a nice, solid player, and a pretty good leader," Dennis said.

Another returning senior, Tyler Newberry, also returns at receiver and defensive back.

Sophomore Jeff Rice, who missed the Jordan Valley game, will anchor the Pine-Eagle running game.

Others in the backfield picture are junior Lucas Fisher, and freshman Trey Fisher.

Jacob Huff, who missed last season with a broken ankle, and Ray Denig, a four-year starter, will anchor the line.

"We've got some solid leadership this season," Dennis said.
