Ontario spoiled Baker's home soccer debut Thursday by sweeping a Greater Oregon League doubleheader from the Bulldogs at the Baker Sports Complex.

Ontario won the boys match 8-0 and the girls match 8-1.

In the boys match, Ontario bolted to a 3-0 halftime lead.

Baker had some chances in the first half, but couldn't capitalize.

"There were just some little things in the first half," said Baker coach Victor Benites.

"We just have to learn from those things."

Baker's offense then vanished in the second half as Ontario scored five unanswered goals.

"We're better than that," Benites said.

"We need to execute better. I really don't know what was wrong with my guys today."

The girls match was almost a carbon copy of the boys.

Baker mounted minimal offense in the first half, trailing 3-0 at halftime.

Then, as darkness enveloped the field, Ontario scored five straight goals in the second half.

Baker's lone goal came in the waning seconds just before the final whistle.

Both Baker teams travel to Milton-Freewater Saturday.
