Cold shooting and poor rebounding did Baker in 56-49 against Weiser Friday in the Bulldogs' home-opening nonleague boys basketball game in the BHS gym.

"We didn't shoot the ball well at all. And, we didn't play good defense. We gave up too many easy baskets," said Baker coach Joel Richardson.

"We fought so hard to get back into the game, then let it go back out," Richardson said.

"We just had guys not doing a good job of blocking out under the board," he said.

Weiser outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-19, including 14 offensive rebounds. And, Baker shot just 36 percent from the field (17-of-48). The Bulldogs were just 9-of-26 from two-point range, and 8-of-22 from three-point range,

Weiser led 14-9 after one quarter, then increased its margin to 11 points, 26-15, before Baker pulled to within 26-19 at halftime.

Then, led by six points - on a pair of three-point baskets - from sophomore Logan Sand, the Bulldogs battled back to within 36-33 with 2:07 left in the third period.

But, leading 42-37 at the break, Weiser scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to hold the Bulldogs away.

Six points from Mason Cline, and five from Ben Baxter, helped Baker cut the deficit back to four points, 52-48, with 52.9 seconds left.

But, Baker could get no closer.

"We're still in a learning process; a growing process," Richardson said.

Cline led Baker with 12 points. Kyle Srack added nine and Sand eight.

Baker (1-3) travels to Pendleton Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Baker swept Friday's preliminary games. The Bulldogs won the JV game 61-37, and the frosh/soph game 50-15.
