The fifth annual Baker Girls Basketball Breast Cancer Awareness Night will be Jan. 24 when the Bulldogs host La Grande in a Greater Oregon League contest at BHS.
Tim Smith, one of the event organizers, said the evening will be dedicated to raising money for the individuals or familes in Baker County that have been affected by cancer.
The girls basketball team, with the help of the Baker City community, has raised more than $12,000 for breast cancer awareness.
Smith said the intent is to collect sponsorships to purchase pink t-shirts, and shoe laces to wear during the games. He said that if possible the Bulldgs also would like to raise enough money to provide shorts and laces for La Grande as well.
"We are planning several fundraising events including a silent auction, a bake sale, and breast cancer awareness merchandise," Smith said.
"All proceeds from these events will be used locally to assist those in need," Smith said.
Smith said the team is asking community members and busineses to support the event as a gold sponsor ($250), silver sponsor ($100) or bronze sponsor ($50).
Gold sponsorships will be used to purchase t-shirts with breast cancer logos for the teams to wear during pre-game activities.
Silver sponsorships will be used to purchase breast cancer awareness merchandise to sell during the games.
Bronze sponsorships will be used to purchase silent auction merchandise.
Sponsors will be recognized during the game as well as listed in the program.
