Baker came up just a little bit short against Ontario Thursday in their Greater Oregon League district girls basketball playoff game at Ontario.

Ontario outscored the Bulldogs 12-9 in the final five minutes to pull out a 45-42 decision, ending Baker's year at 4-18.

"I thought the girls played really good tonight," said Baker coach Jenny Mowe-Joseph.

"But in the fourth quarter we missed some blocking ut and missed some free throws."

The game was tied 33-33 with about five minutes left when Ontario went on its run.

Baker managed to pull within a single point three times in the final two minutes but each time Ontario, who defeated the Bulldogs in three meetings this season, answered.

The teams battled back and fourth in the first quarter which ended with Ontario on top 11-10 on a basket at the buzzer.

Emily Tatlock then scored four points, and Michelle Freese three to help Baker take a 21-16 halftime lead.

Baker built its largest lead, 28-21, on another Freese basket midway through the third quarter.

The Bulldogs still led 31-30 entering the final eight minutes.

Ontario took a 33-31 edge to start the fourth quarter only to have Allie Brown's basket tie th egame at 33-33.

That's when Ontario regained control.

Freese finished with 14 points, and Brie Sand eight.

Freese added 10 rebounds and four steals. Tatlock had six rebounds, and Sand three steals.

"I thought Michelle Freese and Brie Sand both played phenomenal," Mowe-Joseph said.

"And, Emily Tatlock was such a presence in the paint. It was just a good team effort."
