Baker opened its high school softball season more like a football season Friday at Nyssa.
Baker outscored the host team 18-15 in nine innings to earn the win.
"Just what we needed for a season opener," said Baker coach Al McCauley.
"Lots of runs, giving up an 8-run lead. We got to see just about everything."
Baker constructed an 8-0 lead through the top of the fourth inning.
Sierra Koehler's RBI single and a two-run single by Morgan Plumbtree sparked a 3-0 Baker first inning.
Koehler and Dani McCauley each had run-scoring singles, and Kayla Davis an RBI double in a three-run second inning.
Hope Collard's RBI single boosted Baker up 7-0 in the third.
Then, leading 8-0, the Bulldogs gave up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to see their lead cut to one run.
Koehler added a two-run triple in the sixth to highlight another three-run Baker inning.
But, again the Bulldogs couldn't hold on.
Nyssa scored five times in the bottom of the inning to take a 12-11 lead.
Baker answered with four runs in the seventh.
Collard led the way with a two-run single. LaKalyn Thomas added an RBI single and Molly McCrary an RBI groundout.
Nyssa then sent the game into extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Davis' two-run triple sparked a three-run Baker ninth to finally put the game away.
