firstname.lastname@example.org If Baker golf coach Mike Long is any kind of psychic his Baker boys team could be lookng at a Class 4A state championship this spring.
Long, who coached the Baker boys to second place at the 4A tournament a year ago, said this team has the potential to be even better.
"The feel from these guys is that we should fiish with even lower scores than last year," Long said.
"The potential is definitely there."
Seniors Brandon Ellwanger and Riley Carter lead the returning Bulldogs.
Sophomores Logan Sand and Shawn Lepley attended the district tournament last year, but did not compete.
Another senior, Christain Miles of Powder Valley, rejoins the team this season. Miles did not play golf a year ago.
Another sophomore, Ryan Gassin, also returns.
Long said a half-dozen other sophomores and freshmen round out the boys squad.
Sophomore Madi Elms and junior Mackenzie Rodeborough return to lead the Baker girls team.
The five-player team also includes senior Sarah Spaugh who ran track last season, Powder Valley sophomore Katelyn Uttenreuther who played on th eBaker tennis team last year, and freshman Sidney Brown.
"This group has more of a fun feel than a competitive feel right now," Long said.
"We're rebuilding and learning."
Long said his main goal for both teams is to have fun.
"My philosoophy has always been to teach the kids to have a love for golf," he said.
