Baker once again couldn't put two complete halves together Tuesday and suffered a 59-51 loss at Nyssa in a non-league girls basketball game.

"We did not play a very good first half," said Baker coach Tim Smith. "We played a decent second half, but it was too late.

"We came out flat and they outhustled us up and down the floor."

The shorter Nyssa squad also outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-27. Katie White led Baker with eight rebounds. Jackie Owens added six, Jessie Wittich five, and Danielle Thatcher five.

Baker committed just 15 turnovers, but had several other errors that didn't show up in the turnover column.

"We just didn't take good shots," Smith said. "In the first half we forced some things. Fifteen turnovers is good for us, but we made some bad decisions and took some shots that just weren't going to go in."

Amber Uriarte led the Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points.

Smith said his club is going to have to turn things around quickly or it could face a long weekend with a pair of Greater Oregon Leagues on tap.

Baker travels to La Grande Friday, then hosts Class 3A top-ranked Burns Saturday.

"We're going to have to turn some things around or it's going to be a long weekend," Smith said.
