Baker rallied in the second half to beat Grant Union 53-41 in a non-league boys basketball game Tuesday at John Day.

Baker trailed 21-19 at halftime, then outscored the Prospectors 34-20 after halftime.

"We came out slow in the first half, and couldn't hit our outside shots," said Baker coach Craig Woods. "Grant Union packed their defense in and made us shoot outside."

Woods said Grant Union played an aggressive defense, but Baker responded in the late going.

"The kids played well down the stretch," he said. "We might have been overlooking these guys with Seaside coming up."

Baker travels to the Seaside tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Bulldogs open play Thursday with a 5:15 p.m. game against Astoria. Grant Johnson led the Bulldogs against Grant Union with 20 points.
