JORDAN VALLEY vs. MOHAWK: Mustangs win 63-60

The Jordan Valley Mustangs got 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks from their 6-foot-5 center, Jeff Anderson, and 14 points each from Mark Freese and Tim Uhalde to advance to the semifinals of the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 1A state boys high school basketball tournament with a hard-fought 63-60 victory over Mohawk in the late game Thursday night.

The Mustangs used 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the 3-point line to help build a 31-25 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Jordan Valleys shooting hands cooled off the Mustangs were limited to 40 percent from the field, including just 1 of 5 from beyond the arc but they made their free throws when they had to to seal the victory. The Mustangs, who qualified for the state tournament as the No. 2 team from District 4 connected on 11 of 12 second-half free throw attempts, or 92 percent.

Junior Jimmy Craig was Mohawks top scorer. He had 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 6-of-9 from 3-point territory. Cody Mattox added 15 points and 8 rebounds, while David Burns had 11 points on the strength of 3-of-5 3-point shooting.

Jordan Valley moves on to play defending state champion Dufur at 8:45 p.m. tonight in the championship semifinal. Mohawk played Paisley this morning in the consolation semifinal.
