To the editor:

On behalf of Oregon's 242 cities, the League of Oregon Cities would like to acknowledge Sen. Ted Ferrioli's outstanding efforts during the 2007 legislative session.

Among his many accomplishments as Senate Republican Leader, Ferrioli played a key role in collective bargaining discussions – by striking a balance between cities' ability to pay for and manage public safety departments on one hand, and the desire to include the discussion of safety during labor negotiations on the other. He was also instrumental in weighing the issues of fairness and costs to cities in discussions of certain disease presumptions for firefighters — another employment issue that had potential to increase costs to cities and taxpayers alike.

We at the League of Oregon Cities appreciate Sen. Ferrioli's leadership, as well as his consistent work in addressing the special challenges facing cities today.
