To the editor:

We write to express strong support for the appointment and election of Tim Smith for the Oregon State House in District 60.

Former Representative Tom Butler has announced his resignation from office. Over the next short period of time county commissioners of District 60 will participate in the process to appoint Mr. Butler's replacement. That replacement should be a knowledgeable, politically astute and active person such as Tim Smith.

We have known Tim Smith for many years. He has demonstrated sound business sense, integrity, ethics, a can-do attitude, and the ability to get the job done.

Tim knows the issues facing Eastern Oregon very well. He knows the legislative process and the Republican legislators better than almost anyone imaginable. He has extensive personal experience in agriculture and political issues. More importantly, he has sound common sense and good judgment.

We can all count on Tim Smith to get the job done. The challenges we all face are tough, and we need someone like Tim. He will listen to our concerns, and work hard for us. His political background, experience and tenacity make him the best choice to represent all of us in Salem.

We are giving our full support to Tim Smith for Oregon State Representative in District 60. We encourage you to do so also by contacting the county commissioners now and voicing your support for Tim's appointment, and by voting for Tim in the May and November elections. Thank you.
