To the editor:

Does the Baker City police department need a bigger building?

Baker City's population has held steady for almost 70 years; is the police force growing? Why?

When a Baker City resident calls 911, they speak to a Baker County employee.

When a Baker City resident is jailed they stay in the Baker County jail.

Has the city considered contracting police service out to the county? The King County sheriff's office in Washington state serves 12 cities, a population of over 200,000 citizens.

The city manager and City Council have looked outside the Baker City box on other issues and changed the way the city operates. The taxpayers deserve a review of the options facing the city before we spend a million dollars.
