HALFWAY —‑Pine-Eagle dropped a 60-20 non-league football game to a strong Garden Valley, Idaho, team Friday afternoon in Halfway.

“Garden Valley was a pretty good ballteam, but we knew that,” said Pine-Eagle coach Blake Dennis.

“They had one guy (J.D. Clark) who scores most of their touchdowns.”

Dennis said Pine-Eagle was without Trevor Durr, who is injured. The Spartans also lost starting running back Kyle Dennis in the second quarter with a shoulder injury.

“We had to move some people around because of our injuries,” Coach Dennis said. “And, the scouting report we had on Garden Valley was that they don’t throw the ball that much. So, of course, three times they did, and we had absolutely no coverage at all. We just made a lot of mistakes.”

Quarterback Jake Traw scored all three Pine-Eagle touchdowns, and finished with 114 yards on 19 carries. Traw also was 6-of-15 passing for 88 yards.

Defensively, Justice Walker led Pine-Eagle with seven solo tackles and an assist. Matt Tarter had four solos and four assists, Traw five solos, Jessie Lawrence four solos, and Daniel Minarich two solos and three assists.

Pine-Eagle hosts Jordan Valley in another non-league game Friday at 1 p.m.
