Blankenship leads Baker with 18 points

Baker jumped to a quick lead, then held off a Weiser rally in the second half to post a 48-44 victory over the Wolverines Saturday in a non-league boys basketball game.

After a 6-6 deadlock in the first quarter, Baker went ahead 20-12 at halftime.

“We kind of jumped out on them,” said Baker coach Craig Woods. “We were running the floor well.”

The Bulldogs held Weiser to no field goals in the second period, allowing just six free throws.

“We played pretty well defensively,” Woods said. “We just have to be more consistent. And, we still have to find our outside shooting game.”

Weiser managed to pull within 34-30 entering the fourth quarter.

“They slowed it down on us in the second half and got back into the game,” Woods said.

Baker finished the game shooting 40 percent from the field after shooting just 34 percent in the previous game. The Bulldogs committed just 15 turnovers.

Derek Blankenship led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Kennan Richards added 11.

Baker (2-0) hosts Pendleton Tuesday.
