Mohawk, OOL trio win semis

Mohawk and three Old Oregon League teams earned semifinal wins Friday at the Class 1A state boys and girls basketball tournaments at Baker High School.

Mohawks defeated Days Creek 63-51 and Powder Valley topped Crane 80-64 in the boys semifinals.

Joseph stopped Country Christian 48-37, and Imbler subdued Southwest Christian 47-35 in the girls semis.


Powder Valley tops Crane

Powder Valley and Crane shared the No. 1 ranking in the Class 1A state poll at one point late in the season.

In a preseason meeting at North Powder, Powder Valley traled the Mustangs by 20 points before rallying to win.

Friday was a different story.

The teams battled to a 34-34 halftime deadlock. Powder Valey then outscored the Mustangs 46-30 in the second half.

Trenton Dixon, Jordan Pratt and Justin Allen combined for 37 points after halftime.

Dixon finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds, Allen 14 points and six stealsm Pratt 17 points and 10 rebounds. Casey Wendt added 12 points, and Anthony Massingale 10 points and four assists.

Jordan Conaway led Crane with 17 points. Dallen Davies added 13 points and three assists.

Mohawk stops Days Creek

Defending champion Mohawk trailed Days Creek 40-38 entering the fourth quarter. Then the Indians went on a 25-11 run to finish the game and advance to their third straight title game.

Anthoney Wallace led a balanced scoring attack in the fourth quarter with eight points. Dillon Tuyls added six, C.J. Vian five, Cord Wilkins three and Aaron Mason three.

Wallace led Mohawk with 16 points. Vian added 14 and Tuyls 10.

Travis Fuller topped Days Creek with 12 points. Tanner Ormond added 11 points, and Tyler Hays 10.

Joseph romps

Anna Bird and Nicke Parks combined for 13 third-quarter points as the defending-champion Eagles pulled away.

Joseph led just 16-14 at halftime, then outscored Country Christian 16-9 in the third quarter.

Parks led Joseph with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Bird added 16 points.

Ashley Axmaker and Heather Cunningham each had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Country Christian.

Imbler built a 24-13 halftime lead and held Southwest Christian off in the second half.

Demetria Thompson led Imbler with 10 points. Sarah Bowers and Kiley Dewey each added nine.

Brittney Adams led Southwest Christian with 11 points. Natalie Gilchrist added 10.
