Baker softball splits at Mac-Hi

Baker opened Greater Oregon League softball play Saturday by splitting a doubleheader at Mac-Hi. Baker lost the first game 5-3 before rallying to take the second game 14-2 in five innings.

In the opener, Baker couldn’t find the big hit when it needed it.

“We had our opportunities, We hit a lot of hard balls right at people. We just didn’t get the breaks and Mac-Hi did,” said Baker coach Al McCauley.

Trailing 3-0, Baker scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 3-2.

In the fourth Morgan Johnson’s RBI single plated Baker’s first run. In the fifth, Tori Brown had a sacrifice fly.

Mac-Hi increased its lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, two-run bloop hit down the right field line.

Baker scored its final run in the seventh on a Darryn McCauley sacrifice fly.

Mackenzie Srack took the loss in the circle.

Trailing 1-0 in Game 2, Baker scored four runs in the third inning to take the lead for good. Brown led the way with a two-run double. McCauley added a sacrifice buntn for another RBI.

Baker added five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.

In the fourth, Brown added her second two-run double. McCauley followed with an RBI double, and Johnson a run-scoring single.

In the fifth, Brown stroked her third two-run double. McCauley and Tara Talbott each added run-scoring singles.

Brown picked up th ewin in the circle.

Baker (1-1 in the GOL and 4-7 overall) hosts league-leading La Grande Friday.
