MILTON-FREEWATER — Baker closed out its Greater Oregon League girls basketball season with a 50-19 victory over Mac-Hi Friday.

Baker now travels to Portland Saturday for a Class 4A first-round playoff game against Roosevelt, a 40-15 winner over Marshall Friday.

Baker’s bench spelled the difference against Mac-Hi

“We got a lot of minutes from a lot of players,” said Baker coach Tim Smith.

“Our bench played as well as it has all season. We got a jump start, a real lift, from our second unit.”

Five points from Marley Robb off the bench, and four from Abi Smith helped the Bulldogs take a 13-7 lead after one quarter.

Two baskets by Michelle Birkmaier, and strong inside play from Jessi Stephens, Alyssa Ward and Shasta Overton helped the Bulldogs take a 21-8 halftime lead.

“We got a good game from our posts,” Smith said.

Ashley Trees and Emily Smith hit three-pointers in the third quarter as Baker increased its lead to 32-14.

Stephens and Stacy Duman then each scored six points as the Bulldogs pulled away in the final period.

Stephens led Baker with 11 points.
