‘Chuck’ Foland
Chuck Foland, 70, a former Baker City resident, died August 19, 2011, at his home in Bend surrounded by his family and close friends.
He lost a battle with pulmonary fibrosis and congenital hearth disease.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Baker City Christian Church, 675 Highway 7. Pastor Jess Whitford will officiate.
He was born on March 6, 1941, at La Grande to Charles Marion and Vinita Marie Foland. He was the middle of three children.
He attended school at Cove through his sophomore year and then moved and finished school at North Marion in Aurora. He attended night school at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City where he studied welding and blueprint reading.
He married Janice “Jan” Livingston on Aug. 4, 1961, at Woodburn. They had three children.
The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year with their family and close friends at their home in Bend.
He worked for Publisher’s Paper and Lumber Mill for 25 years; at Ellingson’s Lumber Mill for 12 years; and for the Oregon Corrections Enterprises for 10 years.
In 1974, he joined the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Posse and was a lifetime member. He was captain in 1979. In 1989 he joined the Baker County Sheriff’s Posse and was also a lifetime member. He was captain in 1999. He attended the Baker City Christian Church.
He loved playing cowboy polo with his horse, Charlie. His usual position was as goalie. He also enjoyed riding horses, trail riding, pistol shooting, and hunting. And he enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
He went by many names throughout the years. Growing up he was known as “Butch.” By family he was called “Lynn.” When working at the mill he was known as “Charlie;” and after joining the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Posse, he went by “Chuck.”
Survivors include his wife, Jan; daughters, Vicky Schuchardt, and her spouse, Daryl, and Kim Sexton and her spouse, Mark, all of Baker City; son, Charles Gregory “Greg” Foland and his spouse, Julie, of Alberta, Calif.; grandchildren, Steven Lenhardt of La Grande, Sheree Hodnett and her spouse, Mark, of Prineville, Christopher Gullickson of Lakeview, Marissa Smithhart of Baker City, Lisa Nelson and her spouse, Jared, of Portland, Sarah Gibson of Portland, Jeremy Gibson of Portland, Jessica Hatfield and her spouse, Josh, of Baker City, Brian Gibson of Portland, Kamrin Sexton of Baker City, Tiffany Foland of Portland and Cody Foland of Bend; his aunt, Ruth Weaver of La Grande; his sisters, Joy Heighes of Elgin and Gloria Higdon and her spouse, Bill, of Salem; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Marion Foland; his mother, Vinita Marie Foland; and his grandson, Bradley James Gullickson.

June Lillehei

June Beverly Lillehei, 82, died Aug. 21, 2011, at Baker City.
No services are planned.
June was born on June 1, 1929, at Pocatello, Idaho, to Orin and Susie Davis. She attended St. Teresa’s Academy, graduating in 1948. She served in the Army for seven months, gaining the rank of an E-2.
June married George R. Lillehei on July 1, 1951, at Fort Ord, Calif., and was a wonderful housewife and mother, her family said.
June was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughters, Irene Wisor and  Elizabeth Lillehei, both of Baker City, Michel Holmberg of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Trease Lillehei of Ontario; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George.
