‘Bud’ Handy
Melvin C. “Bud” Handy, 90, of Baker City, died Sept. 30, 2011, at St. Alphonsus Medical Center-Baker City. 
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place St. The Rev. Julian Cassar of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the Oregon Army National Guard. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends are invited to a reception at St. Francis parish hall after the service.
Bud was born on March 9, 1921, at La Grande to Melvin A. and Anna Schultz Handy. He was a 1940 Baker High School graduate.
Bud entered the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II and the Korean War.
He married Grace H. Hull on Dec. 21, 1959. They had one son, Chuck. Grace died on Sept. 17, 1995.
Bud went to work for the City of Baker City in the water department. He retired in July 1984 after more than 25 years on the job. He enjoyed reading, watching westerns and spending time with his family.  He was a lifetime member of Odd Fellows Lodge, No.25, the Eagles, and Community Connection. He took great pleasure in helping others, his family said.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Lori Handy of Baker City; sister-in-law, Robin Morin of Union; brother-in-law, Richard Hull of Baker City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace; and his sister, Norma Edelen.
