Baker boys lose to Weiser

The obvious object in basketball is to put the ball through the hoop more times than your opponent.

Baker didn't do that Saturday and ended up on the wrong end of a 49-38 loss in a nonleague boys basketball game against Weiser on the Baker floor.

Baker shot just 14-for-40, 35 percent, from the field against the Wolverines.

"We didn't shoot well. That's all there is to it," said Baker coach Joel Richardson.

"It just wouldn't go in the basket for us."

Richardson said he was pleased with the fact that the Bulldogs committed just 10 turnovers in the game. But, he wasn't pleased about when those turnovers were committed.

"We didn't do a bad job of taking care of the basketball most of the time," he said. "But the turnovers we had came at crucial, crucial times."

Baker fell behind 8-3 in the first quarter before rallying to tie the game at 12-12 at the break.

Jordan Curtis scored seven points, and Dillon Blankenship four in the period.

A three-point basket by Dane Bachman gave Baker its first lead of the game, 15-12, to start the second quarter.

Baskets by Braden Phillips, Curtis and Colten Richards helped the Bulldogs take a 21-18 edge midway through the second period.

Weiser then outscored the Bulldogs 12-5 the rest of the period to take a 30-26 advantage at halftime.

Then Baker really went cold.

The Bulldogs managed just 12 second-half points, never regaining the lead.

Two baskets from Phillips were Baker's only points in the third quarter.

Baker added just eight points in the fourth quarter.

Curtis was the lone Bulldog in double figures with 12 points.
