Baker had a reversal of recent history Tuesday evening against Ontario.

The Bulldogs have started slowly in their past three games, digging an early hole that they were unable to claw out of.

Tuesday, the Bulldogs statyed with Ontario until the middle of the fourth quarter before falling on hard times once again.

Ontario outscored the Bulldogs 12-2 in the final 4:20 of the game to pull out a 46-36 Greater Oregon League girls basketball victorty on the Baker floor.

"We put three-and-a-half good quarters together," said Baker coach Tim Smith. "We just had four minutes of bad basketball.

"I thought we got a little impatient in the fourth quarter," Smith said. "We didn't run through our offense like we had been the rest of the game. Things just got away from us in the fourth quarter."

Baker trailed just 8-4 after one quarter.

Then, trailing 11-7 in the second period, the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to build a 17-11 edge. Michelle Freese and Marley Robb each scored four points, and Stacy Duman two, in the run.

"We opened th egame well," Smith said. "We wanted to come out and play well in the first quarter, and I thought we did."

Ontario answered with a 9-2 run of its own to take a 20-19 halftime advantage.

Duman and Shasta Overton each tallied four points in the third period as the Bulldogs pulled even at 30-30 entering the final eight minutes.

Duman added two more baskets early in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 34-34 with 4:20 left in the game.

Baker then went cold, managing just two free throws the rest of the way.

Duman led Baker with 12 points.

"Stacy played hard inside," Smith said.

Baker closes out its GOL season Friday at Mac-Hi.

The Bulldogs will play a Class 4A playin contest on the road Feb. 24. Smith said the game would be against the loser of Tuesday's Gladstone-LaSalle Prep game. Gladstone won that game 44-36.
