Baker’s boys tennis team finished fifth at the Class 4A/3A/2A/A state tournament at Eugene Saturday. Two Baker doubles teams advanced to the championship quarterfinals. Jorden Curtis and Lukas Huggins won their first match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 against Henley’s Jacob and Alex Mangan. Curtis and Huggins then lost 6-4, 6-1 to No. 2 seed Ryan Stack and Josh Yuan of Oregon Episcopal in the quarterfinals. Brandon Zunino and Nathan Eiselein defeated Umatilla’s Edgar Magara and Daniel Garcilazo 6-3, 6-4 in their opening match. Zunino and Eiselein then fell 6-0, 6-0 to Sammy Lubitz and Evan Hallmark of Catlin Gabel in the quarterfinals. In boys singles, Baker’s Ivan Hansen dropped his first match 6-1, 6-1 to Alex Emerson of Roosevelt. Hansen then lost 8-1 to Cody Phillips of St. Mary’s Medford in the consolation round. Oregon Episcopal won the team championship. |
