Eunice Barger

Portland, 1912-2012

Eunice Maurine Orr Barger, 100, a former Pine Valley resident, died April 20, 2012.

Interment will be private. Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial is in charge of arrangements.

Eunice was born on Jan. 11, 1912, at Manhatten, Kan. As a small child, she moved with her family to the St. Johns area of Portland.

Eunice attended Reed College. During World War II, she joined the Coast Guard and was stationed in France and at San Diego, Calif.

She married Alvin Barger and they lived at Tillamook before moving to Pine Valley. They lived at Pine Valley until Alvin’s death.

Eunice then moved to Clackamas in 1985 to be closer to her sister, Dorothy Petrina.

Eunice volunteered in local libraries and enjoyed reading, painting and socializing with friends. She had a great sense of humor, family members said. Eunice enjoyed her dogs and cats.

Eunice celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 11, 2012. She had lived with her nephew and his family for the past 2 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy Petrina; and her brother, Buster Orr.

Survivors include her nephew, Steve Petrina; and nieces and nephews.
