Pendleton, 1954-2012

David William Roberts, 57, of Pendleton, a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 13, 2012, at a Richland, Wash., hospital. 

There was a celebration of his life Thursday at the Roy Raley Park in Pendleton. 

Mr. Roberts was born on Sept. 18, 1954, at Fallbrook, Calif., to William and Beulah White Roberts. He lived at Salt Lake City,where he attended school before the family moved to Baker, Oregon when David was 13.

He was a 1973 Baker High School graduate. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served for eight years, from 1973 until his discharge in March of 1981. During his time in the Marines, he  earned several medals.

He married Cathy Farrar on June 2, 1989. He later lived at Winnemucca, Nev., where he worked in mining. 

The family moved to Pendleton in 2000. While there he worked as a warehouseman for Walmart, and also at the Pendleton Walmart Store.

He was a huge Oakland Raiders fan as well as a fan of NASCAR. He also enjoyed football and the outdoors, including camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Roberts of Pendleton; his parents, William and Beulah Roberts of Baker City; children, Priscilla Wynne of North Carolina, Sara Roberts of California, Bryan Roberts of Pasco, Wash., Ryan Roberts of California, and Matthew Roberts, Megan Roberts and Zachery Roberts, all of Pendleton; brothers, Wade Roberts and Kirk Roberts of Baker City and Kyle Roberts of Bend; and any grandchildren.

Lana Bailey

North Powder, 1967-2012

Lana Beth Sanborn Bailey, 44, of North Powder, died July 31, 2012.

Her funeral will be at noon Sunday, Aug. 26, at Hamilton Mylan Chapel in Vancouver, Wash. There will be a remembrance luncheon afterward next door at the Briar Rose Inn.

Lana was born on Sept. 16, 1967, at Vancouver, Wash., to Sally and Frank Sanborn.

She loved fishing, camping, gardening, going to the beach, cooking and any reason to get together with family and friends.

Lana worked caring for sick and elderly people and was considering returning to school for a nursing degree. She also loved working on her stepmother’s family ranch, the Maxwell Ranch.

Lana deeply loved her family and she was very beloved to them. She will be remembered by many as the fun-loving person she was, and to her niece and nephew as their funny, “crazy Auntie Lana,” family members said. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents (the Swensons and the Sanborns); and aunt, Mae Knight.

Survivors include her sister, SuAnn, and her brother-in-law, Dennis Loewen; nephew, Zach Loewn; double cousin, Jon Sanborn; and niece, Savana Sanborn; stepmother, Cheri Maxwell Sanborn; uncle, Bob Sanborn; aunt, Katherine Edmison; uncle, Gus Swenson; and aunt and uncle, Carol and Dan Peoples; 11 cousins; and her dearest friend, Shannon Underhill. While she was married to Ron Bailey, she loved being a stepmom to Jon and Jessica Bailey.
