Mary Louise Steward Dethloff, 91, of Portland, died Aug. 15, 2012.

There was a celebration of her life today at Assumption Village Assisted Care Center in Portland.

Mary Louise Steward Dethloff, 91, of Portland, died Aug. 15, 2012.

There was a celebration of her life today at Assumption Village Assisted Care Center in Portland.

A graveside service and burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Rock Creek Cemetery. Father Julian Cassar, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, will officiate.

Mary was born at Portland to William E. and Pearl L. Steward. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University at Monmouth) where she earned a teaching degree.

They owned and operated Lithomatic Inc. until her retirement. Mary served as choir director for many years at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portland and at Christ the King Catholic Church in Clackamas.

After retirement, Mary and Bill moved to the family property at Rock Creek and Mary assumed the position of choir director for St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and her eldest son, Joe.

Survivors include daughters, Gennie, Arlene Dethloff (Joe), Theresa Schierman (Dave), Carol Cain (Mike), and Connie Gassner; sons, Tom (Shary) and Ron (Chris); 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Assumption Village, 9121 N. Burr Ave., Portland, OR 97203, or to the Holy Name Sisters Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 411, Marylhurst, OR 97036.
