Kenneth Taylor Jr.

Baker City, 1947-2012

Kenneth Grant “Sonny” Taylor Jr., 65, of Haines, died at his home in Haines on Sept. 17, 2012. 

A celebration of his life will be scheduled later date. 

Kenneth was born on May 21, 1947, at Baker City to Kenneth Grant Taylor Sr. and Violet Pupil Caviness. He attended Baker schools and later worked as a truck driver and musician. 

Kenneth married Paula Murray on Aug. 4, 1981, at Winnemucca, Nev. He retired in 2009.

Kenneth enjoyed singing karaoke, fishing, camping, spending time with his family and grandkids and panning for gold.

He was awarded the “Million Mile Award” for driving trucks. He also played musical backup for such country singers as Tanya Tucker, Tammy Wynette and Barbara Mandrell. No matter where he went, he always made friends. He had a personality that could fill up a room.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Taylor of Haines; mother, Violet Caviness of Baker City; daughters, Kimberly Stepp of Springfield, Heather Martin of Richland, Wash., and Reanna Taylor and her husband, Christopher, of Baker City; sons, Steven O’Dell and his wife, Sara, of Hermiston and Kenneth Taylor III and his wife, Kim, of Baker City; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Robert Taylor, and his wife, Joyce, of Waldport, Ronnie Taylor of Pendleton and brother, Frank H. Colton of Madras; sisters, Gaylene Morris and her husband, Duane, of Baker City, Kara Mayer and her husband, Wayne, of Baker City, Cindy Stubenrauch and her husband, Jerry, of Hermiston, Tami Sutton and her husband, Eric, of Albany, and Vicki Sue Cook of El Centro, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Taylor Sr.; and brothers David Taylor and Terry Taylor.
