Baker took a step up in classification Saturday hoping to tweek its Class 4A ranking entering the post season.

The Bulldogs traveled to Prairie City to meet Class 5A Redmond, coming away on the short end of a 59-50 nonleague loss.

Baker built a 14-2 lead after five minutes only to have the bigger Redmond squad battle back to a take an 18-14 edge after one period.

“After both teams got their bus legs out of the way iy was an 8 to 10-point game the rest of the way,” said Baker coach Joel Richardson.

“I thought the kids played hard, and shot the ball well.

“This was the best team we’ve played this year,” Richardson said.

“If we played teams like that every night we’d learn a lot of things. And, that would only help us get better.”

Baker outrebounded the taller Panthers 38-25, led by Braden Phillips with 11.

However, Baker committed 22 turnovers.

“Their extra possessions made the difference,” Richardson said.

Baker trailed by just five points with about three minutes left, then turned the ball over a couple of times.

“We had our opportunities,” Richardson said.

“The kids played hard, and this is definitely a great game to get ready for the playoffs.”

Dillon Blankenship led Baker scoring with 18 points on six three-point baskets.

Dane Bachman added 11 points, and Phillips 10.
