BHS SOFTBALL: Bulldogs dominate Ontario

Baker bats hammered two dozen hits Saturday on the way to sweeping Ontario 12-0 and 14-3 in a Greater Oregon League softball doubleheader at Ontario.

The sweep improves Baker’s GOL record to 5-3, second place behind Mac-Hi, two games ahead of La Grande. Baker travels to Mac-Hi Saturday.

In the first game at Ontario, Baker used two six-run innings to end the game after five innings.

In the third inning, Courtney Raley doubled and scored on Sierra Howerton’s single. Then, after one out, Howerton scored on a double by Abi Smith. Smith scored on another double by Michelle Freese.

Freese scored when Kayla Davis hit into a fielder’s choice. Darion Grove then completed the scoring with a two-run home run.

In the fifth inning, Taylor McAdams led off with a single and advanced to third on a Grove double. McAdams then scored on a fielder’s choice by Sarah Shankle. Two more runs scored on an Ontario error. Howerton and Freese each added RBI singles, and Smith a sacrifice fly.

Howerton threw a three-hitter, striking out five.

In Game 2, Baker scored four runs in the first and fourth, and three runs in the second and fifth.

In the first inning, two walks and Taylor Ellis’ single loaded the bases with no outs. Freese hit into a fielder’s choice to drive home one run. McAdams walked to reload the bases. Davis then grounded out to drive home a run, and Grove added a two-run single.

In the second, Howerton led off with a triple and scored on an error.

Ellis and Smith then had back-to-back doubles with Ellis scoring. McAdams added an RBI single.

In the fourth, Smith had an RBI double, and Grove a run-scoring single. Two more runs scored on an error.

In the fifth, Ellis and Smith walked and both scored on a Freese double. Frese later scored on a single by Julianna Delatorre.

Shankle got the win, allowing three hits and walking three in three innings. Howerton threw the final two innings, allowing two hits and walking one.
