Venna was born on April 23, 1926, at Carson, near Halfway, to Ralph and Zella Hansen. She graduated a year early from Pine Valley High School in 1943, then went to Salt Lake City to attend business school. After completing business school, Venna moved to Baker and worked as a cashier and a bookkeeper. Later she went  to Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, where she worked as a cashier.

After the war Venna returned home briefly and then left to work in Oakland, Calif., in a restaurant and as a bookkeeper.  She returned to Halfway to stay with her Uncle George on the ranch that her folks had bought. Venna married Jerry Del Curto in 1949, and in 1950 they bought the ranch from her mom and that ranch is still in the family. They had four children, Joann, Julie, Sally and Barry, who were all raised on the family ranch.

Venna worked as a ranch wife and mother and cooked many wonderful meals for the family and workers who helped on the ranch. She worked at several jobs — Avon sales, census taker, and for the school district as needed. In the mid sixties she went to work at U.S. Bank and worked her way up to the manager position, retiring after 19 years at U.S. Bank in Halfway.  After retirement she worked briefly at the  U.S. Bank’s La Grande branch. She and Jerry later divorced.

In 1984, Venna married Bill Moody.  They enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Yuma. She  worked for several years in Halfway, selling real estate.  After Bill died, she remained in Halfway, sometimes spending the winter months with her sister in Hurricane, Utah. Venna loved Halfway and was very grateful to be able to stay here until her death. She was very active in the community in her younger years having been a member of the Pine-Eagle School Board, the PTA, and the VFW Auxiliary to name a few.

Venna is survived by her sister, Joyce Gordon and her husband, Doug, of Hurricane; her children: Joann Pollock of Halfway, Julie Del Curto of Halfway, Sally McCraw and her husband, Mike, of La Grande, and Barry Del Curto and his wife, Shella, of Halfway; her grandchildren: Lisa Howarth and her husband, Chris Page, of La Grande, Dan Pollock of Halfway, Katie DeClue of La Grande, Joel McCraw and his wife, Jill, of Union, Dustin Del Curto and his wife, Cindi, of Halfway, Erin Morrison and her husband, Alan Morrison, of Eagle, Idaho, and Cassie McCraw and Chris Williams of Bend; 11 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Nancy Stover and Dan Moody and their families; and many nieces and nephews.
